Created 6 years ago, by Michele Byrd McPhee, the Ladies of Hip-Hop Festival is annual tribute to women in hip-hop featuring performances and classes, celebration and conversation. Each year, the community gathers to take classes from world renown dance instructors and check out performances from some of the illest female dance crews. Celebrating the 5 year anniversary of the event, asked Stacey “Flygirrl” Wilson to join the team and expanded the festival to five nights of dance, live painting, performances, and more... Ladies of Hip-Hop Festival 2008 featured performances by female artists Bahamdia & Ethel Cee, dance instructors Tweetie and Toshika, flygirl & fly lady di art exhibits, honeyrockwell & Maori Holmes as panel guests and beverl y bond on the wheels of steel.
This year we will feature women in a four-day festival. Thursday night is a live painting & DJ jam session with Philadelphia DJ’s. Friday night will feature poetry slam, dance performances + art exhibits. Saturday will feature a panel discussion, art exhibit & film premier that night, Tastytreats, Philly’s longest running weekly party serves as the offcial dance party of the festival. early sunday is dedicated strictly to dance classes. then that night we feature philly’s flyest mc’s. Within the four days, we will feature Philly’s greatest creative women - Dancers, Artists, MC’s, Dj’s, Chefs, Designers, Promoters, Pioneers, Personalities, and everything in between. more...
